David Cameron has proposed that inmates hand over part of their wages to victims of their crimes a report stated today on the BBC.
Where it is great that inmates are learning new skills to better cope when they return to the outside world, surely all of the money that they should “technically” earn should be put towards repairing the damage they have caused either to their victims or damages to property etc?!
The report also went on to say:
"It's about teaching prisoners that they can do work," says a spokeswoman at the Ministry of Justice. "Pay is an incentive and it's a reward for doing something with your day, other than sitting in your cell."
Yes, its about teaching, but surly a punishment should not involve reward by payment unless all is put towards repairing the damage caused?!
